New Work in Progress (Grad School Report)

I began my first year of graduate school in August. I'm working towards an MFA at the University of Cincinnati. I'm working in new, experimental fields; taking risks and pushing boundaries of my work and practices. I had a few false starts, but the work I'm doing now if exciting and challenging.
Below is some images from my studio and some of the work I an working on. (Better images to come.)

My Interview on The Shakes, a podcast on creativity and other things.

Here is an interview I did for an old friend's podcast on creativity and other things. I ramble on about art, creativity, my old band, small business ownership, and Batman. You can stream or download the episode.

"The Last Voice"

"the Last Voice"
acrylic & charcoal. 2014
(temporary photo)

The last painting completed in Goldsboro, NC. I took an old painting I had made in undergrad at ECU that I was never really happy with and reworked it. I never really felt the painting was finished, and I don't think I had the ability to really make the painting I wanted to make. In reworking I revisited my pure abstract approach. I find this approach to be  somewhat meditative, but also puts my brain in the sphere of problem solving.

Untitled Small Painting Study. May 2014

Untitled Small Scale Study.
8"x 10"
Acrylic & charcoal. 2014
I don't typically do painting studies, or paint on a small scale, but I did this as an experiment. I had trouble getting my trademark painting style to work, the lack of drips and runs. I think it is an interesting one off painting. I might do more small scale works in the future, but i do find it limiting and confining. In a way, i feel i struggled to express myself fully on this scale.
